Add IndustryLens to VS Code (with MCP support).

VS Code 1.95+. Opens a vscode.dev redirect that hands off to the app and confirms the install.
mcp.json (.vscode/mcp.json or user settings) — if the button is blocked
{
"servers": {
"industrylens": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://api.industry-lens.com/mcp/public"
}
}
}Steps
- Click "Add to VS Code" — a vscode.dev page opens and hands off to the app.
- Approve the IndustryLens server in the install prompt.
- Direct-scheme alternative (paste in the browser bar):
vscode:mcp/install?%7B%22name%22%3A%22industrylens%22%2C%22url%22%3A%22https%3A%2F%2Fapi.industry-lens.com%2Fmcp%2Fpublic%22%7D
- Or add the JSON fallback to .vscode/mcp.json and reload the window.
Verify it worked
The MCP servers view lists industrylens; ask "Who competes with apollo.io?".
Try these prompts
- “Who competes with apollo.io?”
- “What did Clay recently change in its go-to-market?”
- “Give me a competitive profile of ramp.com.”
- “List recent strategic moves for ZoomInfo.”
- “Find competitors for cognism.com.”
Troubleshooting
The link is ignored
The redirect needs VS Code 1.95+. Use the .vscode/mcp.json fallback — it always works.
Server fails to start
Confirm type is "http" and the URL has no trailing slash.
No MCP support
Update VS Code and ensure the MCP/Copilot feature is enabled for your account.
