Apollo Just Rented Its Database To Someone Else's Agent

Apollo is now infrastructure for agents it does not own, Semrush has moved its top tier behind a demo gate, and Klue's one-star reviewers have written your objection script for you. Here is what to say in the next call.

"Klue was meant to solve-win loss insights for our company and empower our global field with real-time actions and understanding."

This Week in Competitive Moves

Apollo has turned its database into infrastructure. In Apollo for Agents, an external AI agent hands a full prospecting job to Apollo's agent. Apollo applies the filters, digs past the database using Google Maps and web research, and returns leads with a fit rationale for each one.

Read that again. Buyers will no longer judge Apollo as a place a rep logs in. They will judge it as a service their own agent calls, and the person doing the judging sits in RevOps, not on your floor.

That rewrites the objection. Your reps are trained to fight a database on record counts and match rates. The fight this quarter is whether an unsupervised agent can be trusted to produce the shortlist a buyer acts on.

One-line talk track: when a prospect says their agent already handles prospecting, say: "Good. Ask it why it picked those ten accounts, and whether it can show you the source behind each pick."

Quick hits alongside it: Ahrefs has restated its AI prompt quotas as monthly checks (150, 300 and 600 across Lite, Standard and Advanced) on its pricing page, and Goodie AI has cut its Core plan to $295 a month from $399 with unlimited seats, pricing itself openly against cheaper visibility-only tools.

Talk Tracks for the Week

Semrush One Advanced goes custom. The top Semrush One tier no longer lists a self-serve annual price (it was $549 a month) and now reads Custom, with a Request demo button. Prompt tracking is now unlimited on that tier, which is a fair trade. Check the page before your next call. When you hear "we can get Semrush's top tier at a known price", say: "Look again, the number is gone. Ask for the annual figure in writing, then compare it to what you can see here." A competitor retreating behind a demo gate hands you the transparency point for free.

Salesloft ships its agentic stack. The 27 October release brings Agentic Playbook, a context engine, AI analytics and live Zoom battlecards, with several pieces still in early access, per the announcement. When you hear "Salesloft already gives us battlecards mid-call", say: "Live cards are only as good as the context feeding them. Ask which sources refresh that card, how often, and whether the insight carries a trust tier." Then ask which of the four capabilities the buyer has actually seen working outside a roadmap slide.

ZoomInfo moves inside Snowflake. A new MCP connector and API let Cortex Agents query ZoomInfo's GTM Context Graph beside the customer's own warehouse data, via MarketScreener. When you hear "our data team already has ZoomInfo in Snowflake", say: "That gives your team contacts and firmographics. Ask your agent to return what a competitor changed this week and the source behind it. If it cannot, you have a data layer, not competitive intelligence." IndustryLens ships an MCP server with 30 tools, 12 usable without an account, so a buyer can run that exact prompt in front of you.

What Buyers Are Saying

Incumbent CI vendors spent the fortnight collecting one-star reviews, and they have handed you the objection script. Klue drew complaints about alert and newsfeed noise, duplicate syndication, no spell check, limited table formatting and no battlecard templates. Crayon reviewers flagged the opposite failure: one shared resource covering competitive intelligence, and very little underneath it.

One Klue reviewer, rating the product 1.0, wrote exactly what you sell.

Also worth knowing: a Crayon customer reports emails routed to a cancellation folder and an unresponsive CSM before non-renewal. That is a live renewal risk in your install base too.

Meanwhile Crayon added a SharePoint integration so competitive documents sitting in Microsoft libraries refresh battlecards automatically. Useful feature, and a deliberate switching cost: it pulls the buyer's existing enablement content deeper into their stack.

When you hear "we already have a CI tool, it just needs configuring", say: "Ask your team which alert they opened last week. If the answer is none, the problem is not configuration." Then show a weekly battlecard that refreshes with a quality score on every line.

The Move to Make This Week

Rebuild one slide. Take the "an AI agent will do our prospecting" objection and put three things on it: the Apollo agent-to-agent move, the Snowflake prompt your buyer can run in Claude or Cursor, and one verbatim reviewer quote. Thirty minutes in your next enablement slot is enough to walk the team through it.

Then add a single line to every displacement battlecard: "Which competitor changed pricing this week, and what is the source?" If a rep cannot answer that live, the battlecard is the problem, not the rep. Before Friday, check your top ten open competitive deals against the Semrush custom-pricing move and the Goodie AI price cut. Any buyer who mentioned either vendor in the last month gets a follow-up this week.
